VARIOUS ARTISTS Display Ideas For Supermarkets (TOY 1)

This is the original TOYTOWN C-60 compilation, pieced together in the front room of the St Kilda flat I lived in at the time. Most of the bands on this compilation were contacted through the post and most I'd had no contact with before, and some no contact after (was it something I said?!). Initially this release came with the the first edition of the fanzine Her Majesty The Stamp #1.

THE WASH DADDIES Baby London (TOY 2)
The only existing Wash Daddies cassette LP, described at the time as 'A musical mix direct from the Twilight Zone'. This description still seems pretty apt. The songs were created by painstaking audio collage (Louise Olsen in Sydney sent me tapes of sounds that I incorporated into the songs), 'found' sounds and a few proper songs thrown in, no samplers were used (I don't think they had been invented then!). There were grand plans for the rad Dads to play a laundrette tour of Melbourne (aiming big as always), but alas this grand scheme never came about.

VARIOUS ARTISTS Fingernails (TOY 3)

An ambitious compilation that took far longer than it should have to compile (welcome to DIY recording). Old friends The Cannanes, Beat Happening and others were asked to contribute (and did) and Fingernails ushered in a whole new swag of bands to the ranks. It was also the first appearance of Stinky Fire Engine. Initial copies came in a big plastic bag filled with all sorts of fun junk and the second (and final) edition of fanzine Her Majesty The Stamp #2.
