VARIOUS ARTISTS Selfless - The Cannanes Tribute Compilation (TOY 11)

The idea was to surprise The Cannanes with this tribute compilation of different bands playing their songs. It took over a year to compile and despite the many people being involved I believe the secret was kept (if you know otherwise please don't tell me, I'd like to keep my illusion). I was conscious of  seeking diversity on this comp and the results were certainly that, surprising and unusual renditions of The Cannanes great songs.

STINKY FIRE ENGINE Picnic (TOY 12)
Stinky Fire Engine landed from another planet with this collection of electro pop stuff, pre-dating the easy listening revival by several years (what stars!) and offering you a vision of the future which is far better than the one we got. Give me bubble cars and personal jets packs, moving sidewalks and Jetsons' style homes! Just the thing for walkman entertainment on that next suburban op shop safari, or the music for that classy fondue and finger food night. It's so versatile!

DAVID NICHOLS Plus Jamais TOY 13)

David's solo outing (from The Cannanes and Crabstick).

DEB GERMAINE Deb Germaine (TOY 14)

This title was released anonymously at the time, but was masterminded by James Currin of Crabstick. Along with Plus Jamais and Baby London, Deb Germaine is one of TOYTOWN's more conceptual releases. TOYTOWN, not afraid to walk on the weird side.
The songs have no titles

CRABSTICK Cleavage (TOY 15)
Michael (Nichols) and James (Currin) recorded this cassette while David (Nichols) was out of the country (in New Zealand if you must know). Special guests featured were Zeb and Stuart (Olsen - from Matrimony and Box The Jesuit (respectively) and dozens of  other bands).

SUKPATCH That's Leona's Business (TOY 18)
I think Sukpatch heard of TOYTOWN via The Ah Club connection, but I can't be sure now. When they first wrote they were based in Colorado but have moved states many times since then, last spotted in Minneapolis, they have a two fantastic CDs out on Slabco. That's Leona's Business was their first release.
